TAQ QUESTIONS

A tag question is a question that is added on to the end of a sentence

Rules:
When the main verb is affirmative, the taq question is negative, when the main verb is negative, the taq question is positive

Example:
1. You know Bob, don’t you?
2. Marry is form Chicago, isn’t she?
3. Jerry can play the piano, can’t he?
4. You don’t know Jack Smith, do you?
5. Marry isn’t from New York, is she?
6. Jerry can’t speak Arabic, can he?

Notice the following: I (the speaker) use a taq question because I expect you (the listener) to agree with me. I give my idea while asking a question at the same time

1. The speaker’s idea : I think that you know Bob
The speaker question: You know Bob Wilson, don’t you?
Expected answer: Yes, I do

2. The speaker’s idea : I think that you don’t know Jack Smith
The speaker question: You don’t know Jack Smith, do you?
Expected answer: No, I don’t

3. The speaker’s idea : I think that Marry is from Chicago
The speaker question: Marry is from Chicago, isn’t she?
Expected answer: Yes, she is
