Conditional Sentences Type 3

Form: would/should have + V3, if + past perfect tense

Function: to talk about the fact that had happened in the past. The truth couldn’t be changed.

Example:

1. They would have visited you if you had met them
(fact: they didn’t visit because you didn’t meet them)

2. We should have gone together if we had enough time
(fact: we didn’t go together because we didn’t have enough time)

3. I could have gone for swim if the weather had not been bad
(fact: the weather was bad so I couldn’t go for swim)
