GERUND

Gerund is a verb in the ing-form. Gerund can be used as subject, object or compliments.
a. Gerund as a subject
Example:
1. Drawing is a good hobby
2. Swimming makes us healthy.
3. Being poor forced him to rob the bank
4. Driving car isn’t easy

b. Gerund as an object

Verb object
Example:
1. I don’t like smoking
2. Totok enjoys reading bicycle
3. They don’t mind coming to the party.

Object of Preposition
Example:
1. He gave up drinking
2. She went to sleep after reading the novel
3. Before waving her hand, she smiled at me.
4. Ali goes on speaking on the class

c. Gerund as compliments
Example;
1. My hobby is drawing
2. What he wants is playing tennis

Gerund as compliments is always placed before to be (is, am, are, was, were)

d. Gerund as noun modifier
Example:
1. The waiting room is very large
2. she has taken too many sleeping pills
3. The reading books are on the table.
